Alocohol-to-Jet for Sustainable Aviation Fuels
Regional waste and residual materials as an option for sustainable aviation with SAF made in Germany

On January 12, 2023, CENA Hessen and aireg invited around 60 representatives from the fields of politics, authorities, business, research and associations to the Hessian State Representation in Berlin to discuss issues relating to the topic of “Alcohol-to-Jet for Sustainable Aviation Fuels”.
In the Alcohol-to-Jet process (AtJ), biogenic waste and residual materials are converted into CO2-neutral fuels. In particular, the type and origin of the biomass as well as its availability play a decisive role in the sustainability and also the costs of the end product. Pending EU regulations also have a major influence on the future prospects of “SAF made in Germany”.
Five presentations and the subsequent panel discussion explored the questions of how AtJ fuels can be produced sustainably in Germany, how this technology can contribute to the defossilization of aviation and what regulatory and other barriers and obstacles currently exist for production and use in Germany. In addition to a market overview of SAF production paths and cost aspects, practical experience from a specific AtJ project and investment project of the HCS Group was also presented.
We would like to thank you for the great interest and look forward to follow-up formats!
